Need help developing characters?

Happy Australia Day, Aussies!

For those of you not from our sunshiny land, Australia Day is the day cars are adorned with the Australian flag, the air is filled with the aroma of BBQing meat, and other indulged-in delicacies include lamingtons, pavlova, tim tams and vegemite. And BEER. Lots and lots of beer.

Backyard or beach cricket is played and an afternoon nap is compulsory. Not a bad way to spend a day, I reckon.

But I am not here to talk about Australia Day - I am here to talk about a FREAKING BRILLIANT resource I have discovered, on the art of creating unique, whole characters.

Adventures in Childrens Publishing did a series on character development back in 2010, and part of that series included a Character Profile worksheet. This one, in fact.

Click on me go to to the Character Profile of Awesome.

As a part of my "2012: The Year Sarah produces 30 new ebooks" extravaganza (a little ambitious? At the moment, survey says yes.) I am plotting a collection of shorts in which there are bucketloads of characters. Most of whom will be a leading character at some point. I need to know them inside out. And this character profile sheet is sheer brilliance in helping me work out their quirks and habits and what they stand for.

Thought it might help you, too. And if you're not a writer, well, I guess it gives you a bit of insight into this whole book creation process, huh?

Later gators!

New eBook release! The Witch's Curse

Happy Wednesday, blogophiles!

Since December my ebook sales have exploded and I'm thrilled and hope all you out there reading my books are enjoying them. If you're so inclined to write an honest review on Goodreads or the store you bought it from, I wouldn't hate it. :)

So guess what? You know that goal I had for 2012, in which I write 30 new ebooks?

Here's the first one!

In this new short supernatural thriller from Amazon Best Selling author Edwina Ray, when fifteen-year-old Alex is caught out in the secluded forest admiring the giant tree set in a moss-covered clearing, she is sure Josh is pulling a prank on her.

Be careful of the witch's curse, he says. The tree has the power to kill you in the most horrible of ways.

Alex didn't believe him.

Maybe she should have.

Now available for only .99c on Amazon US, UK, Spain, Italy and France!

Did you notice that 'best selling' thing? You did, huh? Well Edwina Ray is officially a best selling author, with The Runaway gracing the top 100 short stories lists on both the Amazon US and UK sites!

Rather exciting, that.

I have enrolled The Witch's Curse in Amazon's Kindle Lending Program for 3 months as an experiment, so unfortunately it is unavailable for other ereading devices at present. But never fear - all my other books are available, and The Witch's Curse is coming to Smashwords, Nook, Kobo, Itunes, Sony et al in April!

Next up, ebook-wise is a Sarah Billington YA romance set at summer camp in which Katy is totally crushing on the water sports counselor, Toby, and she's pretty sure he's crushing on her too. But then her friend Teeny announces that she likes Toby and enlists Katy and her campers to help her get him.

And for Edwina Ray, it's darker things indeed. In such a small town, it was little wonder that the night the Gabarski's house burned down the whole population turned out to watch it go. Luckily, no one was injured, however no one's seen Mr. Gabarski since that night.
Ryan likes the hint of danger and solitude he finds in the condemned home. Until the night he finds a dead body there. And the murderer knows what he found.

On that happy note, have a good night/day, everyone!

New Year Goals

Happy New Year, beautiful ones!

How did you spend your New Years Eve? House Party? Beach Party? Camping? Clubbing? Wandering the streets of your nearest city in search of fireworks?

Or were you tucked up in bed or on the couch with a nice DVD?
Lots of people in my area DID spend the night on the couch, though not as many as your average Saturday night. How do I know this? Because I spent New Years Eve at Blockbuster!

I was going to a house party after work but then it was moved another hour away from me so I went home instead. And did a load of laundry and went to bed watching illegal fireworks outside my window. I challenge you ALL to beat the hard-core of my New Years Eve.

I do have some goals for the new year though. You wanna hear them? Okay I'll tell you.

1) Write and publish 30 short fiction ebooks including this:

Cover art not final

and this

Cover art not final

2) Write the road trip book.

3) Edit The Kiss Off and the zombie book

4) Advertise my editorial service more

but most importantly, my New Year goal is to HAVE MORE FUN.

How about you?

For those of you like me in the southern hemisphere - try and stay cool, for those of you up top - don't freeze, okay?

Love,

Sairz

The Anticipation...winners being drawn!

Bonjour lovely ones!

How was your Christmas? I am still in the place of four legged friends, lots of sleep and patchy internet access! Where is that, you ask? My parents house by the beach!

There was the Christmas Day lurgy, and my sister's trip to the emergency room on Boxing Day...but all in all a great holiday! Nothing a cuddle with a dog can't fix. Or crutches.

I loved reading all your entries to the blog hop competition, it's a shame it's over, isn't it?

I shall do some calculating while twirling my moustache and who entered which competition and within hours (or longer depending on internet access) the WINNAHS AND CHAMPEENS will be announced!

All winners are also entered into the Holiday Hop GRAND PRIZE competition for a Kindle Fire!

I want in on that one, myself.

Stay tuned!
